Over the Edge
Toledo Event Photography
In September, my team and I had the distinct honor and pleasure to be a part of a unique fundraiser in Toledo, Over the Edge for Victory benefiting The Victory Center. For this event, anyone who raised at least $1,000 could rappel down 17 stories on the side of the Edison building in downtown Toledo. Thursday, September 7 was Media and VIP day when 10 people rappelled down. After a lengthy rain (lightning strikes) delay, ProMedica’s very own Randy Oostra led the brave people who were invited to be the first to experience this fun event.
Mr. Oostra was followed by 9 other people including 13abc Sports Director Justin Feldkamp
and WTOL news co-anchor Kristi Leigh.
Even Rocky and Rocksy from the University of Toledo came out to watch the fun!
Printed Photos Instantly
Friday, September 8 was the big day! Once again I was on the roof of the Toledo Edison building taking photos of all of those who were rappelling. My team was downstairs in the lobby printing 4×6 photos of the rappellers that I took from the roof. By the time each person made it down the building, their printed pictures were waiting for them to take home.
Over $150,000 was Raised!
Over 90 people took part in the two-day event and raised over $150,000 for the Victory Center! Hundreds of people came out to watch. I even saw people watching from other buildings!
I’m not sure who brought the most supporters, but I do know that our friend Derryl had the biggest sign supporting him!
Survivors and Supporters of all ages and walks of life took part in the event. Some even dressed up as superheros! One even had a videographer with her to capture her story!
The team from Over the Edge Global made sure that everything ran smoothly. Everyone who participated in the rappelling challenge had a great time and descended safely.
Over the Edge Photo Booth
Of course, we had to add more fun to the event by having my Kurt’s Kustom Keepsakes green screen photo booth available during the event. My team was set up in the lobby of the Edison Plaza. Each rappeller would be escorted into the photo booth by a volunteer as soon as they came down. This gave them another photo opportunity with their gear on. Some even had family members join them in the photos. The volunteers helping the Victory Center and anyone who came to watch could also join in the photo booth fun! To make the background look even more realistic, I took some photos from the rooftop of the Edison Plaza looking down to the ground back in June. I used one of those photos for the background image.
I even brought a rope and some fake hard hats to use for props to make it look like people were actually rappelling down the side of the building. Of course, the event was called Over the Edge, so many people chose to “fall” off of the building instead of rappelling down, which added to the fun! And, as always, everyone in every photo took home a 4×6 print of their photos.
Even Kevin, the Senior Business Development Manager for Over the Edge had fun with our photo booth.
We know Batman would never fall off of a building because he’s Batman, so he climbed up the building instead.
This was such a fun event for a great cause. We were very honored to have been a small part of it and look forward to next year’s Over the Edge for Victory!
